Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is a Mexican-born musician and singer who fell in love with Colorado. Denver's state anthems inspired many to visit Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado as John Denver." In 2011, Denver was named the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. To many, Denver is the symbol of Colorado. In my travels I've had the pleasure of meeting individuals who are from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell that you're from Colorado, the first words they'll use are Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 hits after performing with small folk music bands. It was co-written by and produced by Bill Danoff. Danoff had written the song in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered the song's early versions and was aware that it was going to be an instant hit in the top 10. After singing to an enthusiastic crowd on the streets of Washington D.C., the artist recorded the song.
